KOBO WELLNESS DAY And How You Can Start One In Your Workplace.

An intention of mine in living this purpose of spreading meditation and mindfulness is to be able to offer my services within the workplace. Whether it be supporting companies that currently offer a wellness and development program or to recruit companies into creating one.

It is always great to know that more and more companies are investing in ways for employees to find balance in their work day and one of those workplaces is KOBO/RAKUTAN. I came across this opportunity in another beautiful manifestation. I offered an attendee at one of my early morning soundbaths a ride home as we were leaving at the same time. I hardly knew her but knew she showed up several weeks in a row and wondered how far she was travelling. I was floored to hear she made her way across town just to come for a 7am soundbath!! I asked her where she wanted a drop off and which direction she was going and mentioned how she was on her way to work at KOBO. Interestingly, a week prior I was doing a shore cleanup at the waterfront and went to get a bite to eat in Liberty after. After eating, I separated from my friend so I can enjoy a sliver of sun that was left in the sky. The suns rays landed me right in front of the KOBO office and I sat there waiting or my UBER thinking to myself how wonderful it would be to share mediation at that office. Jumping back to the original story, I had mentioned this occurance and in beautiful timing she mentioned that her company was having a wellness day just around the corner and she would ask if they would be interested in having meditation.

It was in this simple act of kindness and being open to human interaction outside of having our faces in front of our devices that I can attest that this opportunity arised. So if you find yourself overworked and stressed from a job you love and could use wellness in the workplace my best advice is to simply be open to having those conversations within the workplace and maybe just ask. Even if they aren’t willing to support any programs at the get go it shows that there is an interest and need. I have had many interactions with HR departments and they know all too well the rates of mental stress leave and many departments have yet to discover or have the time to implement proactive strategies. If you are overworked in your department most likely that is the same situation in every department. With that said they may just be looking for someone to give them the solution.

Later this beautiful encounter bloomed into much respect for this writer, Courtney Toderash; the creator of an independant weed publication featuring female identified smokers. Check out her most recent writing piece for the KOBO blog here.
